

Here's some recent articles (with our sincere thanks to the Morpeth Herald) keep scrolling down to see them all.. 22 June 2009 Morpeth Boys’ Brigade bed down for charity Sleepy heads from Morpeth Boys’ Brigade bedded down last weekend in support of children’s charity Save the Children. A record number of 6 -12 year old boys (17 in total) from Boy’s Brigade, together with leaders and hardy parents, slept over night at the Manchester Street-based head quarters, tucking into beans and sausages as part of the globally co-ordinated ‘Giant Sleepover’ event. A variety of fun and games - including keeper of the keys, hide-and-seek, a sleep bag race and a giant hike around Morpeth - were served up as part of the night’s activities, which raised nearly £100 for Save the Children. The boys were among thousands of other youngsters across the UK and around the world taking part in the 5th Giant Sleepover to break the Guinness World Record for 'the biggest simultaneous sleepover’ ever held. And as a reward for their sleepy efforts, each boy went home with a special goodie bag bursting with fun things to do and treats. Clive Kemp, junior company leader, said: “It’s fantastic that a record number of boys turned out for the sleepover to support such a worthy cause. “I would like to thank all those who participated and helped out and here’s to next year when we’ll be aiming to once gain break the record.” This was part of the grand finale for an exciting year of fun and adventure for the Brigade. Enrolment starts again in September, especially for anchors (6 - 8 year olds) and junior section boys (9 -11 year olds). Since then, it has grown in to a worldwide movement working with millions of children and young people. The Morpeth Company was founded in 1894 - and continues to flourish! It provides a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from six to 18 years old. Volunteer youth leaders work in a relevant and creative way to make a positive contribution to a young person's life. It seeks to facilitate youngsters being active and assisting their development in a safe environment with experienced supervision. NEWS RELEASE 10th June 2009 Surf’s up for Morpeth Boys’ Brigade as it rides internet revolution Morpeth Boys’ Brigade is clicking onto the benefits of internet technology to raise awareness of its activities and boost membership. The Brigade, based in Manchester Street , is the first to launch its own dedicated website (www.boysbrigade-morpeth.org). At the click of a mouse people will see the latest news and information about the Brigade and find out more about forthcoming activities like the trip to the Newbiggin RNLI lifeboat station and visit to the Lakeland Activity Centre in Cumbria . NEWS RELEASE 26th May 2009 Morpeth Boys’ Brigade scale new heights in latest adventure Several youngsters from Morpeth Boys’ Brigade took to the hills recently to learn some top tips for surviving in the outdoors. The have-a-go group of boys from the 1st Morpeth Company based in Manchester Street travelled to the Lake District in Cumbria to enjoy a new challenge involving fun, adventure and mountain climbing. Braving icy winds and rocky slopes seven lads from the junior and company sections scaled the imposing 1,481 ft peak Cat Bells’ peak above Keswick. The boys, aged between 10 and 13, were also taught mountain safety and basic survival skills from Jon Craggs, who is a course director with Becks Development Training based in Allendale, Cumbria, Jon Craggs said that the expedition was a success because the discipline and teamwork encouraged in the Boys' Brigade was important on the mountainside. After the expedition, everyone enjoyed fish and chips in Keswick before returning to Morpeth. More at www.boysbrigade-morpeth.org NEWS RELEASE 5th May 2009 Morpeth Boys’ Brigade battle it out with water pistols at fun week-end! A massive water pistol fight was just one of many fun activities 1st Morpeth Boys’ Brigade enjoyed on its annual trip to Broomley Grange last week-end. Twenty eight company boys, aged from six to 11, together with leaders, gathered for a series of organised events at the Boys’ Brigade North East outdoor centre near Stocksfield, Northumberland. The packed three days is designed to encourage team work among the boys and boost individual confidence in an environment of fun and laughter. The boys zipped down aerial run ways to crash land on mats, clambered through a maze of tunnels, built a dam across a stream and played an exciting game of hide and seek called ‘Midnight Marauders’. The week-end’s activities ended on a very wet but fun note - a huge water fight saw the boys battle it out with water pistols while leaders ducked for cover.
